Billy Webb the backup driver chased Peter McBride for about 20km when we left the hotel, as Peter thought they said Narellan. The fun and games had begun!
The ride that day was pretty uneventful, apart from a few mechanical problems. Warwick's bike pinched a valve. Steve and Harry had generator problems, and my grey ghost had distributor trouble and a split fuel tank. On the Harley side Peter McBride continued to fiddle and Paul Hutley's bike on the trailer ran flawlessly towed behind Branko's truck.
Upon arriving at Jindabyne, Crazy Dave kept the police RBT stop entertained, while the Indian boys carried out some running repairs, much to the amusement of the Harley riders. Crazy Dave provided entertainment in the pub coming out in his birthday suit to show off his jewels.
Thursday morning had us up early and heading south along the Alpine Way. What a fantastic ride as the group roared and twisted their way through the charred remains of the Kosciusko National Park. After stopping for fuel at Khancoban, the Victorian Police greeted us with the big blue RBT bus. Steve Kavanagh was having trouble convincing the officer that his bike really was registered and he had started with a number plate and rego label. But as other riders arrived with the necessary evidence that Steve had been leaving in his trail, he was free to continue on.
It was then off to Tallangatta for a quick lunch, and thirst quenching beer. We then stopped for fuel at Glenrowan, then headed to Mansfield for a well-deserved ale and to meet up with the Indian and Harley boys from Melbourne. Then it was off to Merrijig for a night of drinking, laughter and yarn telling, with our southern neighbours. For those that had a 3 inch thick steak at the pub it was a meal to remember.
